Out on Delivery: Fri 15 Sep

Today: A clarity of a day. Sharp sunlight and a freshness that kept us cool until around 11am. Working with Elliot, plenty of packets and magazines to deliver but the day had a rhythm and pace to it that felt good. Working with just one van key, but the day was just perfect for waiting by the van for the other to finish.

Out on Delivery: Tue 12 Sep

A monster of a day. Too much mail, too many packets, a constant threat of heavy thundery rain, and a serious road traffic accident shutting Ipswich Rd.

Working with a colleague who is new to the walk as Kelly is on light duties whilst her hip heals. Andrew is extremely professional and fast but still more work in describing where the walk goes and remembering all the information I need to share.

We do our best but can’t complete all the walk we took out. Finish feeling a little defeated.

Out on Delivery: Wed 6 Sep

Hottest day of the summer (so far), spiders are everywhere. Usually quite brave I did freak a little when this monster appeared on my delivery bundle. Calmed quickly enough to catch a photo.

Shaun brought me a coffee on his way to work, a definite highlight. Kelly is on light duties to rest her injury so I worked with a colleague Wayne who is a top postie. Plenty of packets to deliver, happy to be driving the last section with the air conditioning on.

Out on Delivery: Mon 4 Sep

Today: Sunny sunny sunny. In the low morning light all the new spiders web glisten, I managed to catch one image, but not the full wonder of the five webs all set in different planes, glistening.

Early start times as we head into “peak”, the busier time of the year for royal mail. Kelly has a sore hip and it is difficult watching her soldier through the delivery.

Out on Delivery: Fri 1 Sep

Today: A beautiful last day of August, the perfect conditions help us through this big delivery day. Plenty of school uniform parcels, books and autumn clothing catalogues coming through.

Fair weather brought people out, saw a number of customers out and about in different locations, eliciting the usual “wow, you deliver right over here too”. Also added a need to concentrate harder on pedestrians, cyclists and family grouping. All seeming drifty and unpredictable. Perhaps just felt as such, in contrast to our got to get this done mood. Full throttle.

Out on Delivery: Wed 30 Aug

Today: Another fresher but sunny day, all is moist from overnight rain. A cycle to work, morning now barely light a pair.

Enjoyed the patterns in the concrete walkway in Suffolk Square, I don’t know what has created them, Bleach ? Weathering ? A remnant of fixative from a previous surface ?

Tried to be a good Samaritan directing a lost driver to his destination. I hope my instructions were clear. Finished in good time and managed to grab a coffee before returning to the delivery office.

Out in Delivery: Tue 29 Aug

Today: Feeling rested and ready to walk after the bank holiday break, the weather is fine and the traffic still in it’s languid summer holiday mood. A lighter post bank holiday delivery day and trying not to think of Thursday when the bank holiday backlog will come flooding through.

Definite autumnal feel, to the freshness in the breeze, the crunching of nuts underfoot and a first brown fallen conker in Church Avenue.

Out on Delivery: Sat 26Aug

Today: Another fresher day with crisp bright autumn tinted sunlight. Flowers really singing, really enjoyed by these delicate pink flowers/vine that is growing on the fence to the Jenny Lind park.

A lighter Saturday, so a more relaxed walk, with slivers of opportunity to enjoy the job, the chance to chat a little to customers and to notice the surroundings. Almost perfect delivering weather, if only we didn’t deliver to any blocks of flats, which warm us up with the exertion and warm staircase spaces.
