Today: Ahot sweaty sunny August day laced with hints of autumn approaching. Blackberries, fallen conkers, dried leaves and softer shadows. Enjoying crunching beech nut cases underfoot and a first fallen leaf swish in Church Avenue.
Still a number of big beautiful blooms across the walk and the need for a sunhat.
Today: A hot and Sunny Monday delivery. Shocked and saddened to hear from residents about a fatal accident on Newmarket Road on Sunday. Residents felt the road works had contributed to the accident and had the harrowing experience of trying to comfort the trapped cyclist as they died.
Today: A pickle of a day, not quite on it enough and working with a newer colleague who is not familiar with the walk and needed more support than I gave. Three trays of mail, a council letter to most addresses, plenty of parcels and specials and various collections.
Felt like we spent the day driving back and forth, made more complicated by the closure of the junction in the middle of my walk. Traffic carnage.
Overcast and not rainy but thankfully cool enough to not get too hot on bothered .
I love delivering to a chip shop, this magazine, chippy chatter and natter brought a smile to my face.
Today: Glorious clean sharp sunlight and a fresh breeze keeping delivering comfortable. Pleased to have my regular colleague Kelly back. We fly through the delivery.
Very sad to learn that John Last OBE has died. He was Vice Chancellor at NUA when I studied there, a man full of vigour and brim. He lived on our delivery and it has been alarming watching him deteriorate into ill health. Reminded again of the intimate nature of being a postie, the joys and sadnesses of watching life.
Today: Sharp shadowy morning, fresh but warm. Enjoying working with a new colleague and re seeing the walk through having to describe all the idiosyncrasies. Tried towards the end of the walk having given blood the evening before.
Today: Light ripples, Arundel Court: Mrs Willmott’s ghost, Church Avenue: Van light casing shadow, Union street: Delivery montage.
A most exquisitely perfect English summers day, sunny and light filled with a fresh breeze to counter the sun’s rays. All smells fresh and recent rain means verdant lawn and sumptuous blooms abound. A joy to be out and about.
The week starts with some more settled weather, fresher with sunny spells. Wasps and spiders are now abundant, we had a couple of intruders into the van which were swiftly dealt with.
Today: Exquisite purple giant thistles in the ever beautiful gardens outside flat 3-11 Walpole gardens: beautiful yellow blooms squashed against a wall in Melbourne Cottages: Wishes galore in Plantsmans close. Photo montage.
Today: A wet morning delivering, all was green and glistening. A few overly soggy letters delivered and one naughty parcel slipped from my hands and landed itself squarely in a puddle. Much apologising to the customer.
