Out on Delivery: Sat 26 Nov

Today: Pointy leaves, Christchurch road: Mysterious box, which caught my eye, East Anglian Squash and Tennis centre: Leaves, Grove Avenue: Twisted fruits, Ipswich Road.

Back after two days of strike to more mail than we could deliver in Saturday working hours. Put in the overtime to clear it before the tidal wave of black friday shopping washes in.

A beautiful softly sunny day made for a very agreeable days delivering.

Out on Delivery: Mon 21 Nov

Today: First frost, windscreen of van: Still unable to deliver to no 9 Newmarket Road: A little leaf that floated it’s way into my delivery bag: A favourite bush, Ipswich Road, muting gently into winter.

A difficult early morning meeting where we learn of the changes being imposed on our working day/patterns. More walks to go and the work to be redistributed to all, despite our often unachievable work loads. Moral is low, with more strikes looming.

A tear of happiness shed at the end of the walk seeing my colleagues, seconds old, new baby granddaughter via FaceTime.

Out on Delivery: Sat 19 Nov

Today: A little leaf waiting for me as I arrived at the van this morning, Delivery Office: Red leaves, The cedars: Round leaf, Lime tree road.

An overcast day that lifted slowly into sunshine, early out (struggled to wake some customers). Plenty of magazines again, the first trickles of Christmas cards and two Christmas door wreathes spotted !! Going to try to photograph all the wreathed door this Christmas and share them…

Out on Delivery: Fri 18 Nov

Today: A series of fallen leaves with rain drops: Leaf on van window, delivery office: Grove Avenue: Ipswich Grove: Newmarket Road

An overcast cooler day. I am really enjoying the silvery water droplets on the fallen leaves. The leaf colours are magnificent, I feel a sadness at how quickly their splendour fades. I pick some up and put in the pocket of my bag but forget to retrieve them. They will likely be crumpled, dry And distinctively less splendid when I find them tomorrow.

A normal Friday delivery, busy but not too taxing. Delivery office full of talk of the new strike dates and the offer of early retirement made yesterday.

Out on Delivery: Wed 16 Nov

Today: Moist berries, Ipswich rd: Purple berries, Allens Lane: Windscreen reflection, Ipswich grove: Droplets on leaf, Newmarket rd.

Rudely, since not forecast, it rained heavily during the morning. Cleared into a sun dazzlingly, clear lighted afternoon. Noticing berries and droplets of water on leaves.

Plenty more Christmas catalogues to deliver and a black Friday flier which ripped at the slightest invitation and made our fingers black and inky. Definitely noticing the start of Christmas shopping…

Out on Delivery: Mon 14 Nov

Today: Church Avenue: Leaf and Leaves, Ipswich Rd: “bejewelled” leaf, Ipswich Grove

After a misty start a real gem of a day emerged. Plenty of mail, a water company letter to all addresses in Ipswich Road, a sturdy Gresham annual going to a surprisingly large number of houses, and predictable plenty of Christmas catalogues.

The earlier mist seemed to have left brown and orange dew drops on fallen leaves, and the morning glistened and smoked as the sun emerged. Golden.

Out on Delivery: Sun 13 Nov

Today: A favourite bush, Newmarket Road: Wet leaf on Moss, Ipswich Road

Enjoying all the moss and lush greens today. After the bone dry summer the damp greenery feels comfortingly familiar. A warm, damp and overcast day – fairly perfect delivering weather.

Lots of City Council letters meaning visiting all addresses on some streets.

Out on Delivery: Fri 11 Nov

Today: Moss in brick paving cracks: Remaining leaves, Church Avenue: Leaf, Ipswich Grove.

Enjoyed an early morning electric van training. An hour spent driving through Norwich practicing using the engine to recharge the battery. Now can’t wait for the new vans to arrive (expected in March). Particularly excited by the automatic handbrake.

A perfect delivering day, not too hot, dry and nothing too busy/heavy/difficult. Lots of letters, particularly estate agents touting for business !

Out on Delivery: Mon 7 Nov

Today: Dissolving leaf: Mossy paving, Ipswich Rd, Oat leaf on grass sprouting gravel.

Over the weekend the seasons turned a corner. Autumn leaves are mulching away and a bleaker wintery feeling is emerging. An absence of recent strike action means the delivery was a normal lighter Monday. Talk in the office of a possible resolution nearing. Fingers crossed.
