Out on Delivery Monday 29 Jan

Today: An overcast but comfortable day delivering, noticing all the tentative new growth.

Low volumes so a relaxed day out on delivery. All tense and political in the delivery office as we go into a resigning where all the walks are re chosen according to your seniority. Being low down the list, there is a possibility I may lose this walk 206, trying not to worry as all out of my control but would be sad to leave the customers I know.

Still, life turns on.

Out on Delivery: Thu 25 Jan

Today: In the drizzle and damp I notice the small moments of colour and change that have occurred in the last week. The warmer temperatures are encouraging primroses, snow drops and the beginnings of crocuses to emerge. I marvel at how quickly nature responds to the possibility of life.

An average Wednesday, plenty of parcels but light enough mail wise that we get completed.

Out on Delivery: Mon 22 Jan

Today: Fantastic light in Newmarket Road: noticing small splashes of colour: tape residue on a lamppost, Newmarket road: More low wintery light magic, Ipswich Rd

A much warmer return to work this week, a blustery but unseasonable warm morning. A really light work load we get it all delivered in time despite a 30 min shorter working day. We started at 7:00 am, a joy to see the first glimmerings of light in the sky as I enter the sorting office.

Out on Delivery: Thu 18 Jan

Today: small blossoms, Newmarket Rd: slug (?) trails, roof in Mount Pleasant: snow !!: defrosting the van, delivery office car park

A colder day with some added snow flurry excitement. Pleased to get finished as the cold seemed particularly penetrating tiday

Out on Delivery: Wed 17 Jan

Today: A thicket of branches, Lime tree road: Doors, Arundel court: Tiles and wall in weak sunlight, Arundel court.

An overcastness of a day, cold but comfortable when walking. No wind, all still. Manage to complete the walk and deliver everything, a good feeling.

Out on Delivery: Tue 16 Jan

Today: Sunlight on wall, Roseacre: Sunlight through wall on tree and sunlit wall, Lime tree road: An Anemone seed, a little like an inside out dandelion.

Another cold, sunny winter’s day, no frost or windscreen ice perhaps it has been too dry and cold (hoorah).

Today the yearly National Trust Handbooks landed on the frame. So bulky we struggle to fit them in the frame. In our area of NR2 at least 1in 3 families belong (some holding more than one subscription) so the bundles are big and the bags are HEAVY. We work 1.5 hr overtime but still fail to deliver all the mail on both walks.

Some timely late Christmas chocolates from a customer, opened and shared help us through.

Out on Delivery: Mon 15 Jan

Today: A thick crust of windscreen ice: Fresh growth in one of my favourite gardens in Allens lane, I remember its spectacular irises which hope will return this year: The smallest hint of blossom at 16 Christchurch Rd

A crisp fresh first day back delivering, a thankfully lightish day to ease me back in to the walking and cold. Happy to be back at work.

Out on Delivery: Tue 12 Dec

Today: A wet start to the day, we sort the day’s delivery listening to rain drum on the roof. Happily it has eased by the time we get out on delivery. All is wet and soggy, all the beautiful bushes and flowers wilted in the frosty nights. I notice the wintry colours, yellows, lime greens and wet black and enjoy all the suspended drops.

A lull of a day, excepting special deliveries. The delivery office feels open and spacious, all braced for Wednesday.
