Out on Delivery: Sat 18 Nov

Today: Yellow leaves, Phillipa Flowerday Plain: Creeper stalks, Church Avenue: Rainy view from van, Christchurch Road

Another forecast of heavy rain for the delivery created a subdued atmosphere in the delivery office. Heavy to start but, thankfully, by 10am had tailed off to light rain. Still damp throughout by the end of the delivery. Silver lining was the rain kept people at home and we largely got everything delivered:-)

Out on Delivery: Wed 15 Nov

Today: Favourite Newmarket Rd tree looking even more splendid: Another leaf visitor on our windscreen: Mushrooms growing in fencing panel, Plantsman Close. Photo collage, Wessex Street flats.

A beautiful start to the morning, autumnal coloured trees looking amazing in low autumn light. Towards the end of the delivery cloud had moved in and the chilliness of the day started to bite.

We manage to get all delivered, still feeling good to complete the walk.

Out on Delivery: Mon 13 Nov

Today: A windscreen visitor: wet leaves, Ipswich rd: Japanese Maple leaf, Allens Lane: Wessex Street stairway.

A wet start to the first day of the new delivery, cleared during the morning and by the end of the delivery we even had sun.

A day of leaves, joyful to be able to actually complete the walk and a familiar rhythm to delivery.

Out on Delivery: Sat 11 Nov

Today: Autumnal tree, 98 Newmarket Road: Colourful foliage, Norfolk Terrace: silver birch trees on corner by 85 Suffolk Square: Photo collage, suffolk square.

A last time delivering to Suffolk Square and surrounding areas. Having worked really hard the last couple of days to be in a position to clear both walks we arrive to the news there is no extra person and more packets and mail than on any other day this week. With the shorter finish time we have no chance of getting anywhere close.

We deliver to all the areas we didn’t get to yesterday and then just do the 100+ packets. All the mail is out with us and we try not to worry about the work of getting it back into the frame on Monday.

A beautiful day, plenty of sun and a riot of autumnal colours.

Out on Delivery: Tue 7 Nov

Today: pink blooms (Cornish Lily) currently to be seen throughout the walk, these ones in Trory road: Autumnal colours, Norfolk Street: Photo collage, Suffolk Square.

Another chilly but sunny day. I’ve wrapped up warm, since my head is thick with cold. Delivery passes quickly, plenty to deliver. Autumn colours are at their peak. Beautiful.

Out on Delivery: Mon 6 Nov

Today: Beaded curtain and shadow, Walpole gardens: Gold flecked leaves, Ipswich Rd: Crying lady, Albert terrace.

Calmer, cooler and more settled weather has come in. I needed gloves for the cycle and a hat through the delivery. Trees are translucently glowing yellow and all looks beautiful. Very much needed as we try to catch up on the backlog of letters that have built up. Heavy bags with, in some cases, four days worth of mail. All made more challenging by the heavy cold I have caught off the colleague I worked with last week !!

Out on Delivery: Wed 1 Nov

Today: Noticing the beautiful leaf colours and enjoying our windscreen visitors.

Definitely feels like Christmas busyness is underway. Loads of chunky catalogues making the bags heavy. Needed two trolleys for the first time this year.

Out on Delivery: Mon 30 Oct

Today: A return to the walk after a week’s holiday. A backlog of mail due to staffing issues last week. Three of us tackle the build up, creating different working patterns.

A gentleness to the day, but no regrets at having return into long trousers. Leaves are starting to carpet the roads but still beautiful blooms to be seen through the walk.

Wearing in some new walking shoes. They made me feel very tall and sturdy but my leg muscles are this evening registering complaint.

Out on Delivery: Fri 20 Oct

Today: Storm Babet brought a day of endless rain. I cycled to work through rivers of water flowing down Mousehold heath.

It didn’t stop raining. Letters turned to mush, the van fogged up and despite two rain coats, waterproof trousers and waterproof socks, I was wet through by the end of the delivery.

At some point in the middle of the day, as we were delivering to Mount Pleasant it became particularly heavy rain and I discovered that my pockets had puddles in the bottom of them. Both pens and my keys were floating.

Luckily, days as wet as that are relatively rare.
