Out on Delivery: Wed 20 Sep

Today: A mountain of packets/parcels, I struggle to fit it all on my frame as I sort. We struggle to move round the mail filled office and talk is of how will we cope when Christmas arrives.

Out it is overcast but warm and blustery again. We work hard and manage to get all delivered, just, in our longer Wednesday shift.

Out on Delivery: Tue 19 Sep

Today: A blustery day, the first for a while. I enjoy being buffeted until I remember that Kelly was hit by a falling branch whilst out on delivery and the twisting trees take on a more sinister aspect.

A lot to deliver for a shorter Tuesday but Elliott distracts with his quality conversations and by sharing the driving load.

Streets are starting to fill with leaf debris and squashed fallen conkers.

Out on Delivery: Sat 16 Sep

Today: Another beautiful sunny day. A delivery day I will remember, delivering in Plantsmans close I turn the corner to find the lady who lives at 31 has taken a fall. A neighbour is there having just set out to work. She calls 999 and we try to comfort the lady, who is 83 and has taken a nasty bash to the head. Mercifully the ambulance arrive within 10 mins, I remember the five hours Roger, who slipped on the ice last December and bashed his head had to wait. I am deeply grateful she didn’t have to wait as long. I marvel at the skill and professionalism of the ambulance staff as they transfer her onto a board and into the ambulance.

I wish her a good recovery.

How the extraordinary and traumatic lurks within the everyday.

Out on Delivery: Thur 14 Sep

Today: I arrive in to mail that hadn’t been delivered the previous day and was not thrown back in. This meant a couple of loops with three days worth of mail and packets.

Seven boxes of magazines were waiting to be thrown off, National trust magazines amongst them. Bags were heavy, but a second time delivering this half of the walk for Andrew and we make better time, managing to clear all we expected.

A new blue cross caught my eye in Ipswich road, as did the small leaf that had been caught up in the cross creation.

Out on Delivery: Tue 12 Sep

A monster of a day. Too much mail, too many packets, a constant threat of heavy thundery rain, and a serious road traffic accident shutting Ipswich Rd.

Working with a colleague who is new to the walk as Kelly is on light duties whilst her hip heals. Andrew is extremely professional and fast but still more work in describing where the walk goes and remembering all the information I need to share.

We do our best but can’t complete all the walk we took out. Finish feeling a little defeated.

Out on Delivery: Wed 6 Sep

Hottest day of the summer (so far), spiders are everywhere. Usually quite brave I did freak a little when this monster appeared on my delivery bundle. Calmed quickly enough to catch a photo.

Shaun brought me a coffee on his way to work, a definite highlight. Kelly is on light duties to rest her injury so I worked with a colleague Wayne who is a top postie. Plenty of packets to deliver, happy to be driving the last section with the air conditioning on.

Out on Delivery: Mon 4 Sep

Today: Sunny sunny sunny. In the low morning light all the new spiders web glisten, I managed to catch one image, but not the full wonder of the five webs all set in different planes, glistening.

Early start times as we head into “peak”, the busier time of the year for royal mail. Kelly has a sore hip and it is difficult watching her soldier through the delivery.

Out on Delivery: Fri 1 Sep

Today: A beautiful last day of August, the perfect conditions help us through this big delivery day. Plenty of school uniform parcels, books and autumn clothing catalogues coming through.

Fair weather brought people out, saw a number of customers out and about in different locations, eliciting the usual “wow, you deliver right over here too”. Also added a need to concentrate harder on pedestrians, cyclists and family grouping. All seeming drifty and unpredictable. Perhaps just felt as such, in contrast to our got to get this done mood. Full throttle.

Out on Delivery: Wed 30 Aug

Today: Another fresher but sunny day, all is moist from overnight rain. A cycle to work, morning now barely light a pair.

Enjoyed the patterns in the concrete walkway in Suffolk Square, I don’t know what has created them, Bleach ? Weathering ? A remnant of fixative from a previous surface ?

Tried to be a good Samaritan directing a lost driver to his destination. I hope my instructions were clear. Finished in good time and managed to grab a coffee before returning to the delivery office.
