Walk 206: Wednesday 6 July

Today: City council letters: A bloom in full beauty and a spent bloom on the same bush in Roseacre Close: Vibrant purples, Newmarket Road: Delivery office.

Another bigger day delivering due to the city council letters. Today I notice the absurdity of the envelopes stating “To be opened by addressee only” and all the letters being addressed to “The occupier”. Overcast, so the colours of the flowers, still blooming, seem richer.

Wondering what the city council letters are about, will have to wait until they get delivered to NR1 too.

Walk 206: Monday 4 July

Today: Poppy heads and shadows, Kenneth Mckee Plain: Gate and shadow, Launceston Terrace: Stairwell, Fountains Court: Graffiti, Christchurch Road.

Strong sunlight and blue skies as we start our walk, noticing geometric shadows. A fresh breeze kept the walking pleasant. So little post, we whipped around the walk in a quick time, surprising customers with our early arrival.

Walk 206: Saturday 2 June

Today: Lavender bush in Kenneth Mckee Plain: Yellow flowers glowing in the bright morning light, Paxton Place: Ivy slowly creeping over a door in Church Avenue: Staircase, Sandringham Court.

A fairly busy Saturday, a fresh wind to start with bright clear light. Becoming warmer and more overcast as the morning progressed. Quiet streets and a surprise opening of the previously shut Ipswich Road. Perhaps both due to the Lord Mayor’s Parade happening later today.

Walk 206: Wednesday 29 June

Today: The fresh green really popped against our red van and the blue sky: mysterious Rorschach test like tree shadows: I enjoy this delicate leaf/flower plant each time I pass it at The cedars: I spot these red berries and despite the light and heat I think of winter.

A full on, heavy Wednesday delivery. A welcome overcast start with some cooling rain, I feel disappointed as the sun comes out and the temperature rises. Everything dried out and pavements sticky, high summer !! Walk for five hours and cover 16km.

Today: Foliage Church Avenue: Trees Church Avenue: Favourite Oak tree on delivery, Ipswich Road: Major building works in Honor Close, a swimming pool is the talk, today, a hefty Concrete pumping lorry was parked outside property.

An easier Monday with my usual Postie partner back off her holiday. Everywhere hard, dried out and bleached and feeling like high summer. Sunny, but, with a fresh breeze the walking was pleasant.

Walk 206: Saturday 25 June

Today: Anti parking stones in Church Avenue East: windscreen reflection: Sweet peas from 105a Newmarket Road: peeling bark 27 Newmarket Road.

Walk 206: Friday 24 June

Today: Ground is hard and dry but the poppy always amazes me with it’s ability to florish in these conditions and in the most unlikely places: Burnt out foliage in Church Avenue: These carnations, lovingly watered, at the cedars remind me of my youth, when they seemed more ubiquitous.

A slow hot day delivering.

Walk 206: 23rd June

Today: A freshly creosote smelling gate and fence at No 8 Church Avenue: Dryer outlet pipes reflecting grit box yellow: spidery pavement shadows: Sweet peas picked at invitation at 105a Newmarket Road scenting the van.

Sticky and hot delivering. Customers out in gardens and chatty, a pleasurable morning despite heat.
