Out on Delivery: Mon 5 Feb

Today: Splashes of early colour

A warm early spring day, some weak sun breaking through. An otherwise unspectacular day which might have been easier but for most of Walk 206 having not been delivered on Saturday.

Out on Delivery: Thur 1 Feb

Today: The lovely garden at 14 Allens Lane starting to come into bloom. Light through the glass doors in Arundel Court.

A shocker of a day in the office. A resigning is underway, all posties get to re choose where they deliver. Priority of choice is related to seniority.

Posties are obviously unsettled by the thought of loosing their walks but until this day there were no major surprises. This morning though, Matt (my working partners partner) lost his walk which has been his for the last 13 years.

The brutality of the process is laid bare.

Out on Delivery: Thu 25 Jan

Today: In the drizzle and damp I notice the small moments of colour and change that have occurred in the last week. The warmer temperatures are encouraging primroses, snow drops and the beginnings of crocuses to emerge. I marvel at how quickly nature responds to the possibility of life.

An average Wednesday, plenty of parcels but light enough mail wise that we get completed.

Out on Delivery: Tue 16 Jan

Today: Sunlight on wall, Roseacre: Sunlight through wall on tree and sunlit wall, Lime tree road: An Anemone seed, a little like an inside out dandelion.

Another cold, sunny winter’s day, no frost or windscreen ice perhaps it has been too dry and cold (hoorah).

Today the yearly National Trust Handbooks landed on the frame. So bulky we struggle to fit them in the frame. In our area of NR2 at least 1in 3 families belong (some holding more than one subscription) so the bundles are big and the bags are HEAVY. We work 1.5 hr overtime but still fail to deliver all the mail on both walks.

Some timely late Christmas chocolates from a customer, opened and shared help us through.

Out on Delivery: Mon 15 Jan

Today: A thick crust of windscreen ice: Fresh growth in one of my favourite gardens in Allens lane, I remember its spectacular irises which hope will return this year: The smallest hint of blossom at 16 Christchurch Rd

A crisp fresh first day back delivering, a thankfully lightish day to ease me back in to the walking and cold. Happy to be back at work.

Out on Delivery: Sat 18 Nov

Today: Yellow leaves, Phillipa Flowerday Plain: Creeper stalks, Church Avenue: Rainy view from van, Christchurch Road

Another forecast of heavy rain for the delivery created a subdued atmosphere in the delivery office. Heavy to start but, thankfully, by 10am had tailed off to light rain. Still damp throughout by the end of the delivery. Silver lining was the rain kept people at home and we largely got everything delivered:-)

Out on Delivery: Tue 14 Nov

Today: catkins spilling their line green pollen at 20 Christchurch Rd: Fungi, Ipswich Grove: Tree shadow, on the drive to the delivery.

Had a van to myself today, just delivering Walk 206. Mail was light and the walk was achievable in the time. Felt good to be delivering this morning.
