Out on Delivery: Tue 25 Oct

Today: Damp leaves everywhere catching my eyes

Too much mail for our allocated work time, a fraught tense day and a feeling of not being able to deliver one’s best. A disappointing discovery that tomorrow we strike again. Silver linings of half term empty roads and being gifted a liquorice all sort jar by one of my customers(it was on it’s way to the charity shop) that my Dad will love.

Out on Delivery: Fri 21 Oct

Today: 98 Newmarket Rd: 115 Newmarket Rd: 7 Plantsman Close: Limetree road: Ipswich Grove

My eyes are on the leaves today, a glorious range of colours and a damp misty day to enjoy them in. Feeling dislocated in time since we were on strike the office has a Monday flavour, everyone fresh and rested.

Working with a different colleague so a fresh energy. Just the right amount to mail to deliver for the time, so a relaxed but focussed days work. Customers chatty today. Favourite comment was “ oh I hope your not going on strike”, confirming my feelings that the strike action is mainly inconveniencing us posties.

Out on Delivery: Wed 19 Oct

Today: The sunlight just disappearing on 2 Ipswich Rd: Fig leaf: Delivery office car park reflected in car.

A totally crazy day. So much mail, practically every call. We had our parcels taken off but still struggled to get done in time. Heads down hard walking with not much noticing time.

Difficult to keep moral up when we strike again tomorrow and so are set for more large, difficult delivering days Friday and Saturday.

Out on Delivery: Tue 18 Oct

Today: Bright morning light reflection off delivery office, Roundtree Way: Autumn colours and light, Thomas Wyatt Way: Light filled tree, Phillipa Flowerday Plain: Favourite foliage, Plantsman Close: Exquisite Autumnal leaf, Ipswich Rd.

Another beautiful autumn day, still, sunny and bright. Low sun illuminating trees and houses. Not too busy and far too lovely a day to feel stressed. An vexing moment collecting a mountain of parcels in Mount Pleasant having to rescan 23 parcels at least twice to find the rogue unscanned item.

Out in Delivery: Sat 15 Oct

Today: Oak leaves, Ipswich Rd: Shadowy sunlight, Lime tree rd: Lethal Rose spines, End House: Autumn leaf: Windscreen leaf and self reflection.

The tsunami of strike postponed mail hit today. Redundancies have been announced. Tense atmosphere in the sorting office and a need to prioritise what we deliver to get done. Not a good feeling. At odds with the calm beauty of the day.

Out on Delivery: Wed 13 Oct

Today: A merry go round of leaves on the windscreen: sunlit flowers Ipswich Road: A favourite weed, strong and symmetrical, Lime Tree Road.

Many parcels but happily not too heavy on mail. A jovial mood in the van as we are going to visit a colleague and her new twins afterwork. A sunny day but many people still in pyjamas or asleep late into the morning. Roads quiet, a subdued feel to the day.

Out on Delivery: Fri 7 Oct

Today: Acorns, Ipswich Rd: Ivy, Mount Pleasant: Shadows, Phillipa Flowerday Plain: Spider, Benjamin gooch way.

Another sunny mild day. Streets covered in crunched acorns, fruits and sweet chestnuts. A lighter, happier day delivering. Even mildly amused by this giant spider which attached itself to me after I crashed through her web.

Out on Delivery: Thur 6 Oct

Today: Red leaf, Newmarket Rd: Fabulous fungus, Grove Avenue: Crunchy orange leaves, Brunswick Road: Spotty half eaten Holly leaf: Shadow and shadow reflection, Dial house.

Another full day delivering, heavy mail bags and a poorly work partner brought a heavy energy to a otherwise glorious autumnal day. Sunshine, shadows, crunchy leaves and ambient walking temperatures. Hoping tomorrow all will have calmed, frames are now cleared, following the strike disruption, but day not set to be so glorious…
