An evening pilgrimage to the UEA bluebells. A warm sunny close, of a stunning day.
Softly lit woods, bluebells glowing quietly. Noticing: the quiet, the invitation of the woodland paths, wispy feathered clouds and strong blues and greens.

An evening walk 12/05
12/05. A twilight walk around Whitlingham Broad. A setting sun, bats flitting overhead and the moon’s reflection in a puddle.
An afternoon stroll 11/05
An unexpectedly sunny, late afternoon walk, following an overcast rainy day. Around the U.E.A broad and along the River Yare to Cringleford. Strong sun, suspended blossom, glorious greens and crisp reflections, lush.
Life Drawing 10/05
Second Art pocket session with Francis. Model this morning Colin. Have drawn Colin before which made drawing easier. Light was soft and diffuse but plenty around to see the model with. Natural light. More into my swing. Stayed with the graphite and charcoal, whilst I re-learn, looking and transcribing the shapes of the body. A series of 10 min poses, then some 3min action poses and then a final 40 min pose. I chose to draw this final pose twice. Preferring the more spontaneous first drawing. Focused on capturing the face of Colin. Caught something of him, but still terrified of faces. Need to keep drawing them – please with the hands and the sense of the the slump/twist Colin had by leaning his head on his hand.
Colin held a series of action poses, hanging, shooting and skiing which were exciting to draw. Brought some better quality paper along, which ran out before the two final drawings but was better to work with. Mental note to self to look out more buy/more before next week.
An afternoon stroll 9/05
An overcast rain threatening afternoon. Strolling along the river Wensum, with a friend, to hang out under the A146. Noticing patterns, reflections and graffiti textures. Captured sounds of cars passing overhead and the passing of a Cambridge bound train.
A morning walk: 06/05
A pilgrimage to Bluebells that underwhelmed. A cool, but unexpectedly sunny woodland walk. New greens abound, limey, peachy, yellowing, sandy and orange. Light dappling in, with branch shadows, still just visible. A grandparent Oak and an enjoyed rope swing.
Life drawing: 03/05
First session with Francis at Artpocket. Proper easels and working at A1 size, standing. Started with some quite long poses, struggled to relax into it with out the “Quickies” – Need to make sure I just start with quick 2min work – layering on top.
Worked on newsprint with graphite, forgotten how hard it is to remove graphite from newsprint. Smears and then you lose the shape you have made. The rubbing out creates new shapes.
Dramatic lighting, model, Cecily, against a black backdrop for the final 40min pose. Chose to use a charcoal deletion technique. Enjoyed the body section of the drawing (pleased with the result) but pose didn’t fit on the paper so drawing unresolved at the feet. Also fought with the face – too stiff and un fluid, perhaps not enough twist in the shoulder bones ? Hands not resolved. Enjoyed myself and became very black with charcoal. Reminded of how calming it is concentrating so hard on drawing.
Life Drawing 1/05
An evening session, at a bowling alley venue on Dereham Road. In a room – all sat at tables facing the model, Amanda, who was sat on a stool on a stage type area. All work was in sketch book and was graphite black and pencil.
First life drawing back in a while. Happiest with the first fast sketches. Loved the model’s hair, although I never quite captured it. Some quite contrasty lighting. Happy to have captured something of Amanda’s body shape
A morning walk: 30/04
A still of a day, full of quiet productivity. Noticing: bird song, bluebells, pathways and new growth.
